These people began to plea for help, and Qārūn began pleading with Sayyiduna Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, mentioning his kinship and relationship with him, and even began taking oaths by Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام  did not pay any attention to him due to the severity of his anger. Finally, they completely sank into the ground with no traces left behind.

Sayyiduna Qatadahرَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ  has explained that they will continue to sink into the ground until the Day of Judgement. Banī Isrāˈīl said, ‘Sayyiduna Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام made Du’a against Qārūn due to the latter’s house, treasure and possessions.’ Having heard this, heعَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام  made Du’a, and the house of Qārūn, his treasure and wealth all sank into the ground. [1]

In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty has highlighted the ending Qārūn faced in this manner: In verse 81 of Surah Al-Qasas, part 20, it is stated:

So We caused him and his house to sink into the earth. So he had no group to help him against Allah; and he could not help himself.[2]

Dear Islamic brothers! Observe the wretched end of Qārūn, a person who denied Zakat and presented himself as an enemy towards a Messenger of Allah Almighty. Qārūn brought this upon himself due to his deep-rooted love for wealth, but neither did this nor his treasure benefit him.

Rather, he was subjected to punishment and torment, along with his treasure. Through this incident, which has been mentioned in Surah Al-Qasas, not only do we know about the dreadful end of having love for the wealth of the world, but it also clarifies the importance of Zakat.

    Obligation of Zakat

Remember! Paying Zakat has also been made obligatory for the Ummah of the
