seen. The bad servants of Allah are those who tell tales, cause friends to become distant, and search for shortcomings in the pious.”[1]
Indecent language also leads to hatred and tribulation arising. Fighting, quarrelling, and other destructive outcomes come about due to it. The final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “Swearing at a Muslim is synonymous with placing oneself in ruin.”[2]
Jealousy is also a terrible characteristic and major sin. A jealous person spends his entire life burning in envy, always anxious and discontent. Jealousy itself devours good deeds the way fire devours wood.
Similar to this is arrogance. An arrogant person brings many major harms upon himself. He displeases Allah and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, causes people to dislike him, is subject to disgrace on the Day of Judgement and can become deprived of Paradise and become worthy of entering Hellfire. The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “Whoever has even a mustard seed’s worth of arrogance in their heart will not enter Paradise.”[3]
Dear Islamic brothers! You have just heard of how many evils these sins bring into society. Whether a sin is small or large, it is best to always avoid it. Sayyidunā Bilal bin Sʿad رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ once said, “Do not look at how small the sin is, but instead look at Who you are disobeying.”[4]
Let us say we decided to commit a sin; we should then think to ourselves, “The Lord I am disobeying is He Who is watching me at all times, no matter where I am or what state I am in.” اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه This will go a long way in helping you avoid sin.
