Illness of Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام

It is stated on page no. 181 and 182 of ‘Ajaaib-ul-Quran ma’ Gharaib-ul-Quran[1] (Urdu), a publication of Maktaba-tul-Madinah:

A widespread misconception among people is that Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was﴿مَعَاذَ الله﴾ suffering from vitiligo (white spots on skin). Some unauthentic books have also recorded fabricated stories about his leprosy. But remember that these tales are completely incorrect and Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام or any other Nabi عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام has never been afflicted with the disease of leprosy. In this context, there is a unanimous rule that the Ambiya عَلَيْهِمُ الصَّلٰوةُ وَالسَّلَام stay protected from all those diseases that are publically loathsome and detested. This is because it is the primary duty of the Ambiya عَلَيْهِمُ الصَّلٰوةُ وَالسَّلَام to preach the people. So it is obvious that when people will detest and go afar from them due to such illness, then how can the obligatory task of preaching be executed!

Conclusively, Sayyiduna Ayyub عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام never at all suffered from leprosy but only mere blisters, boils and pimples popped up on his blessed body, due to which he عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام suffered troubles for many years but he عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام endured it with great patience and gratefulness. (‘Ajaaib-ul-Quran ma’ Gharaib-ul-Quran)

Similarly, this event has been mentioned in some books in this way that during the illness he عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام was infected with worms which used to eat his blessed body; this is also not true; because worms in the apparent body causes hatred and disgust. Therefore, preachers and orators should not describe any such thing about the beloved Nabi Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, which people feel dislike from and which is contrary to the rank of Prophethood.
