Dear Islamic brothers! In today’s weekly Sunnah-inspiring Ijtima’, we will be listening to the parables, narrations and Ahadees filled with admonitory Madani pearls regarding observing patience over calamities. Let’s first listen to a faith-enlightening parable.

Test of Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام

Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام is from the lineage of Sayyiduna Ishaaq عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام. His mother is from the family of Sayyiduna Lut عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام. Allah Almighty blessed him with every type of blessing. He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was also blessed with beauty, abundance of offspring and wealth.

Allah Almighty put him into trial. His offspring died by being buried under the collapsed house. All his cattle, that included thousands of camels and goats, died. All his crops and gardens were devastated. To the extent that nothing was leftover.

When he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام would be given the news of all these things being destroyed, then he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام would glorify Allah Almighty and say: ‘What is mine! The One Whom it belonged to has taken it away. I had it until He had given it to me for. He has taken it away when He willed. One cannot thank Him (duly) and I am content upon His will.’

After this, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام fell ill. Blisters appeared on his entire blessed body and it got covered with wounds. In such state, everybody left him. However, his blessed wife, Rahmat Bint-e-Ifra`eem, did not leave him. She kept serving him.

He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام remained in this state for many years. Finally, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام supplicated in the court of Allah Almighty that: ‘O my merciful Lord! Indeed, I have received calamity and You are the most merciful out of all those who are merciful.’ (Khaazin, Taht-al-Ayah 83, pp. 282-288)

Allah Almighty accepted Sayyiduna Ayyub’s عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام Du’a. How his illness was removed that Allah Almighty said to Sayyiduna Ayyub عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام: ‘Strike your foot on the ground.’ Upon doing so, a spring of water emerged. Sayyiduna
