Dear Islamic sisters! You have heard! How great the habit of truthfulness is that it leads a person to the Paradise. Whereas, lying is such an evil practice that throws a person into the pits of Hell. A liar is inscribed as a grave sinner in the court of Allah Almighty and this evil habit makes a person sinner.

The renowned commentator of the Holy Quran, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khanرَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه states: ‘A liar becomes a firm transgressor and sinner in future. Lying leads one to [committing] thousands of sins, and it is proven from experience too. The first one to lie was the Satan, as he said to Sayyiduna Aadam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم: ‘I am your well-wisher’. He further states: A liar gets trapped into every type of sin and people naturally lose trust in him. People start hating him. (Mirat-ul-Manajih, vol. 6, pp. 453)

Lying in order to make people laugh

Dear Islamic sisters! Whether a sin is small or big, wellbeing lies in refraining from it; especially from the [sinful] act of lying, as one lie becomes a means of [committing] various sins. In order to hide one lie, people have to tell various other lies.

But unfortunately, large number of people are trapped in the evil of lying today. Many such occasions come where there is no harm in speaking the truth, but yet people lie there too. For example, in a gathering of a few Islamic sisters, they lie in order to make one another laugh and make the gathering more enjoyable. Let’s listen to 2 blessed sayings of the Holy Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم that condemn lying in order to make people laugh.
