Madani pearls regarding keeping names

٭ Keeping the names ‘Abdul Mustafa, ‘Abdun Nabi and ‘Abdur Rasool are absolutely permissible as through this, the aim is to gain the blessings of the association of the names. ‘Abd has two meanings. Bondman and slave. That’s why, there is no harm in keeping these names. Keeping the names Ghulam Muhammad, Ghulam Siddeeq, Ghulam Farooq, Ghulam ‘Ali, Ghulam Husayn etc., those names that contain the association of the word ‘Ghulam’ towards the blessed Ambiya عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام and righteous people, is absolutely permissible.  ٭Muhammad Bakhsh, Ahmad Bakhsh, Peer Bakhsh and keeping such kind of other names that contain the name ‘Bakhsh’ associated with any Nabi or Wali is absolutely permissible. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, part 16, pp. 214)

 ٭The names Taahaa, Yaseen shall not be kept as these are among the Muqatta’at-e-Quraniyyah. Their meanings are not known. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, part 16, pp. 213)

 ٭Bad names shall be changed with the good ones.
