یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَوْفُوْا بِالْعُقُوْدِ۬ؕ
Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: O People who believe! Fulfil your words (agreements). (Part 6, Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 1)
Similarly, in Ayah 34 of Surah Bani Israeel, Part 15, Allah Almighty has stated:
اِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـٴُـوْلًا (۳۴)
Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: Indeed the promise will be asked about.
(Part 15, Surah Bani Israel, Ayah 34)
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Bin Umar رَضِیَ
الـلّٰـهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُمَا has said that the Beloved
Rasool
صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: ‘The Muslim who breaks an agreement and a promise
incurs the curse of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ, the
angels and all humans and neither any of his Fard [obligatory] nor Nafl act
will be accepted. (Sahih
Bukhari, vol. 2, pp. 370, Hadees 3179)
It is stated in another blessed Hadees: People will not be destroyed until they break agreement with their people. (Sunan Abi Dawood, vol. 4, pp. 166, Hadees 4347)
Dear Islamic brothers! Have you heard how severe punishments there are for those who break promises! The one who breaks promises incurs the curse of Allah Almighty, His angels and all human beings. Neither any of his Fard act nor Nafl act is accepted. The Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: Breach of promise does not mean that a person makes a promise [to someone] and he also intends to fulfil it, but rather breach of promise is that a person makes a promise, but he intends not to fulfil it. (Al-Jami’-ul-Akhlaq Ar-Rawi Al-Khateeb-ul-Baghdad, pp. 315, Hadees 1168)
