وَ  لَقَدۡ   ہَمَّتۡ   بِہٖ  ۚ   وَ  ہَمَّ   بِہَا   لَوۡ  لَاۤ    اَنۡ   رَّاٰ  بُرۡہَانَ   رَبِّہٖ ؕ

Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: And indeed the woman desired him; and he too would have inclined to her, if he would not have seen the proof of his Lord. (Part 12, Surah Yusuf, verse 24)

Commenting on the abovementioned verse, the famous commentator of the Glorious Quran, Sadr-ul-Afaadil ‘Allamah Maulana Sayyid Mufti Muhammad Na’eemuddin Muradabadi عَـلَيْهِ رَحۡمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ الۡـهَادِی has stated, ‘Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has made the Prophets عَـلَـيْـهِمُ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّـلَام free from ill manners and shameful deeds, and has blessed them with good manners. Thus, they avoid every evil deed. According to a narration, ‘When Zulaykha tried to seduce Sayyiduna Yusuf عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَـيْهِ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّلَام, he saw his father Sayyiduna Ya’qoob عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَـيْهِ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّلَام who had pressed his finger between his teeth, and was gesturing to Sayyiduna Yusuf عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَـيْهِ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّلَام to stay away from her.’ (Khaza’in-ul-‘Irfan, pp. 445)

The fact is that it was a one-sided love on the part of Zulaykha only, and Sayyiduna Yusuf عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَـيْهِ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّلَام had not indulged in it even to the slightest degree. In verse 30 of Surah Yusuf, part 12, the saying of some Egyptian women has been quoted like this:

وَ قَالَ  نِسۡوَۃٌ  فِی  الۡمَدِیۡنَۃِ   امۡـرَاَتُ  الۡعَـزِ یۡزِ   تُرَاوِدُ   فَتٰىہَا  عَنۡ  نَّفۡسِہٖ  ۚ   قَدۡ  شَغَفَہَا حُبًّا  ؕ اِنَّا  لَنَرٰ ىہَا فِیۡ   ضَلٰلٍ    مُّبِیۡنٍ   ﴿۳۰﴾

Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: And some women of the city said, ‘The ruler’s wife is seeking to seduce her young boy; indeed his love has deepened in her heart; and we find her infatuated with love openly.’

(Part 12, Surah Yusuf, verse 30)

Hujjat-ul-Islam, Sayyiduna Imam Abu Haamid Muhammad Bin Muhammad Bin Muhammad Ghazali عَـلَـیۡـهِ رَحْـمَـةُ الـلّٰـهِ الۡـوَالِی has stated, ‘Zulaykha had an inclination towards Sayyiduna Yusuf عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَـيْهِ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّلَام but he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام abstained from her
