لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّۃَ اِلّا بِاللّٰہِ! Where are your prayers? Your fasts? The Tahajjud prayers you offered and the nights you spent in worship?” I replied.

He responded with regret, “O Manṣūr! I did not do any of this for the sake of Allah Almighty. I performed all this worship to show people how pious I am and receive their praise. When I was alone, I would close the doors, remove my clothes, consume alcohol and disobey Allah Almighty. Once, I fell very ill and had no hope of surviving. So, I picked up the Quran and started reciting it until I reached Sūrah Yāsīn, then I made a duāˈ, ‘O Allah! Cure me for the sake of the Quran; I will no longer sin after this.’

Through the blessings of the Quran, Allah Almighty cured me, but I engaged in sin once again. I broke the pact of repentance and obeyed the Devil. This continued for a long time until I suddenly fell ill again. I saw the shadows of death and decided to recite the Quran. I made duāˈ through the mediation of the Quran, sought repentance and Allah Almighty forgave and cured me. But I was foolish! As soon as I received the blessing of good health, I followed my desires and continued to displease Allah Almighty by engaging in sin once again.

When I fell ill for the third time, I picked up the Quran, but I was unable to recite it. I wanted to recite the Quran, but my tongue would not allow me. I understood Allah Almighty was displeased with me. Despite this, I made duꜤā’, ‘O Allah! Cure me for the sake of the Quran.’

This time, I heard a voice from the unseen, ‘When you fall ill, you repent, and when you are healthy, you engage in sin. When you are in difficulty, you cry, and when you are healthy, you engage in wrongdoing and disobedience. You encountered many difficulties and Allah Almighty granted you relief from all of
