Dear Islamic brothers! If it is a sin to tell a lie, then how great of a sin must it be to tell a lie and deceive a Muslim brother when it comes to buying and selling a product? It is unfortunate that being able to lie is considered a sign of excellence and progression, while telling the truth is deemed as a foolish act and an obstacle to success.
Some people go to the extreme lengths of even swearing false oaths in order to sell a product. Such people should remember that you will only receive the sustenance which Allah has decreed for you. Neither telling the truth will reduce your sustenance nor will lying increase it. Nonetheless, lying can prove to be a cause of misfortune and financial ruin.
Regardless of how successful a liar is, he will eventually face the consequences of lying. Suppose, if he does not face any consequences in this world, he will definitely be at loss in the Hereafter. Without a doubt, there is no greater calamity than being at loss in the Hereafter.
If only we could deal with our Muslim brothers with kindness and develop a habit of relying upon Allah in regards to sustenance. The reason why lying and deceit has become widespread in business affairs is because people no longer have trust in the true Sustainer. A successful trader should make a mindset of having trust in Allah, the One who has ordained sustenance for every living being on the earth.
