Sulah Kay Fazail

Book Name:Sulah Kay Fazail

Hurayrah رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘Reconciling between Muslims is permissible, except for that reconciliation which causes the Haram to become Halal, or the Halal to become Haraam.’ (Abu-Dawood, vol. 3, p. 425, Hadith 3594)

Let us listen to some examples of this type of reconciliation: for example, reconciliation takes places between a husband and wife on the condition that the man will not approach the women’s co-wife; carrying out such a reconciliation is incorrect. (Or that) A Muslim who is in debt will give interest to his creditor (such a reconciliation is not correct). (Mirat-ul-Manajih, vol. 4, p. 303, summarised) Likewise, if 3 divorces have been given to the woman, yet the husband and wife are told that it is fine and that Allah Almighty will forgive their mistake and that they should reconcile. However, after 3 divorces, that woman becomes Haraam for her husband, and merely reconciling will not cause the Haraam to become Halal, and this reconciliation of theirs is attempting to make the Haraam into Halal, and this is not permissible in any case.

If the debtor was unable to pay back his debt in the appointed time, and then reconciliation is made with the condition that the debtor will pay a penalty for the extra payment time, then such a reconciliation is not correct. Or to reconcile with the condition that the other person will sever ties with his brother or sister, is also incorrect. Likewise, saying to a friend that you will reconcile with him by telling him that he must watch a drama or listen to a song; such a reconciliation is also not correct.

Dear Islamic brothers! From these examples, we learn that reconciliation is in personal rights; it is not permissible to reconcile if it involves opposing the Shari’ah. There is no obedience to the creation if it involves disobeying Allah Almighty and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم nor is there is permission to show Mudahanat (showing a lack of interest/concern in the matter of religion). It is stated in a Hadith in Sahih Muslim: ‘لَاطَاعَۃَ فِیْ مَعصِیَۃِ اللہِ اِنَّمَا الطَّاعَۃُ فِی الْمَعرُوْف’, meaning, ‘It is not
