‘اِسۡمَعۡ يَا اِيۡل’. The word ‘اِسۡمَعۡ’ means ‘listen’ while the word ‘اِيۡل’ is a name of the Almighty in the Hebrew language. Therefore, ‘اِسۡمَعۡ يَا اِيۡل’ means: O Almighty! Listen to me. When he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was born, he was named ‘Ismā’īl’ in remembrance of this prayer. (Tafsīr Na’īmī, vol. 1, pp. 688)
After our Beloved and Blessed Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, Sayyidunā Ibrāĥīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام is the greatest.
Sayyidunā Ibrāĥīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام is the father of all the Prophets succeeding him.
Every divinely-revealed religion has declared it obligatory to follow and obey him.
The followers of every religion honour him.
‘Sacrifice’ is performed in remembrance of him.
Hajj rites are performed in remembrance of him.
He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام is the first to have built the Holy Ka’baĥ, making it like a house.
People began to stand in worship and perform prostration at the stone he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام stood on while building the Holy Ka’baĥ. [The stone is referred to as Ḥajar-e-Aswad.]
