poverty when they see rich people, should all listen to this faith-refreshing parable in order to console their sorrowful hearts.
Sayyidunā ‘Aṭā Khurāsānī قُـدِّسَ سِـرُّہُ الـنُّـوۡرَانِی states, ‘A Prophet عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام once passed by a river bank where he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام saw that a man was fishing. Having recited ‘بِسۡـمِ اللّٰه’ (i.e. I begin in the name of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ), he threw the net into the river, but caught no fish. Then he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام passed by another fisherman, who threw his net in the name of satan and caught so many fish that it became difficult for him to weigh them.
That Prophet عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام humbly said to Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ, ‘I know that all these things are from You, but I want to know the wisdom behind this.’ Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ said to the angels, ‘Show My bondsman the status of both of these fishermen in the Hereafter! When he saw the respect and honour in the Hereafter for the one who threw his fishing net after reciting بِسۡـمِ اللّٰه and the humiliation and disgrace in the Hereafter for the one who threw his fishing net in the name of satan, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام humbly said, ‘O my Lord عَزَّوَجَلَّ! I am satisfied.’ (Iḥyā-ul-‘Ulūm, vol. 4, pp. 577)
The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said, ‘I glanced into Paradise and I saw mostly poor people, and when I observed Hell, I found that there were mostly rich people and women in the majority. (Musnad Imām Aḥmad, vol. 2, pp. 582, Ḥadīš 6622)
