Rights of a Muslim Wife upon Her Husband

Dear Islamic brothers! In order to continue the human existence in this world, Islam grants us marriage as a great gift. And no doubt this gift ensures a happy and peaceful coexistence of men and women. Moreover Islam lays down some guidelines and in this way makes the marriage a sustainable relation. These guidelines ensure that husband and wife both pay the rights and no one infringes the rights of other.

In this blog we will try to shed light on some of the very essential rights which a husband owes to his wife. But before that let’s read some blessed hadith of the beloved prophet (صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ) .

Hadees about Muslim Women:

The Beloved Prophet has said: “Best among you are those who behave well with their women.”

Hadees about Husband and Wife:

the Beloved prophet is reported to have said: “No believing man should have enmity and hatred against a believing woman. If he dislikes certain habits of that woman, there would certainly be some virtues in her too.” it is obvious from this Hadith that being a human being she must be having some shortcomings and they are natural but at the same time she must be having some good qualities as well. A husband should look for good in her and ignore the bad in her. And only then the vehicle of life can go on otherwise a negative outlook can only lead to destruction. Pay attention to this prophetic advise.

Rights of Wife in Islam:

In Islam husband is responsible for the sustenance of his wife. It is her right that she should be provided with food, home and clothes which are in accordance with the living standards of the husband.

When a women gets married it does not mean that she, from now onward, does not have any relation with her parents, brothers and sisters. She is still a daughter and a sister. And it is her right that husband should arrange visits for her to her parents.

A husband should always avoid appreciating the beauty of strange woman in front of his wife because it might lead to suspicion and bad assumption in her mind which would consequently destroy the peace of their home.

It is sunnah for a husband to help his wife in household chores. When Hazrat Aisha(رَضِیَ اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہَا)was asked about what the prophet used to do in his house? she replied, “yes he(صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ)used to mend his shoes and patch his clothes and would do every that thing which a man does in his house.”

Once you are married and become a husband you have to be very patient because many a times you dislike something in your wife and inform her about it as well but still nothing changes. You should keep this hadith in your mind. The Glorious Prophet of Islam(صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ)has said: “Woman has been created from the bent rib of Adam(صفی اللہ علی نبینا وعلیہ الصلاۃ والسلام). If somebody tries to make the bent bone straight, it will rather break instead of becoming straight.”

May Almighty Allah grant us an Islamic mindset and make us very careful about the rights of others! Ameen.
